Personalized landscape photography mentorship for photographers who want a clearer process, stronger field decisions, and more meaningful photographs.
One-to-one mentorship is built for photographers who want practical guidance, honest feedback, and a better understanding of what is helping or holding back their work. Whether you are struggling in the field, in the edit, or somewhere in between, these sessions are meant to help you move forward with more clarity and confidence.
“I wanted to start learning Photoshop but was pretty intimidated by it all. His approach — a combination of patience and pushing — was just what I needed to get over the feeling of being overwhelmed. I like his down-to-earth, practical approach mixed with his true love of the craft.”
— John M.
Why Mentorship?
When I first started my own journey into photography, I was proud to be self-taught. In many ways, I still value that part of my story. It taught me curiosity, persistence, and how to keep showing up. But over time, I also had to be honest with myself. There were things I simply could not quite figure out on my own.
Eventually, I sought guidance from an experienced photographer, and it changed everything.
That help did not just improve a few photographs. It accelerated my understanding of the craft by years. It gave me clearer direction, stronger field awareness, and a much better understanding of what actually mattered. I stopped guessing as much. I stopped spinning my wheels. I started seeing more clearly.
That was years ago now, but the value of that experience never left me.
Today, I offer mentorship because I know how powerful that kind of help can be when you feel stuck. In my experience, struggle usually comes before growth. When photography starts feeling frustrating, confusing, or inconsistent, that does not always mean something is wrong. A lot of times it means your creativity is ready for the next step and just needs clearer guidance to get there.
Who This Is For
This is for landscape photographers who feel stuck, inconsistent, or unsure where their process is breaking down.
Maybe you are struggling to read light with confidence. Maybe your compositions feel cluttered or forced. Maybe you are doing well enough to know you are close, but not well enough to understand what is keeping your work from feeling honest, resolved, and truly your own.
This is also for photographers who are tired of random tips, scattered advice, and trying to sort everything out alone. Sometimes the problem is not effort. Sometimes the problem is simply not knowing what to look for first, what to ignore, and what decision matters most in the moment.
If that sounds familiar, mentorship can help.
What We Can Work On
Every session is tailored to your goals, your questions, and your current process.
That means we can focus on one specific issue, or we can look at the bigger picture and figure out where things are starting to break down. Depending on what you need, we can work on:
reading light and understanding conditions
composition, hierarchy, and simplification
field craft and decision-making on location
planning and preparation
editing workflow and field-to-edit continuity
portfolio review and image critique
artistic direction and photographic voice
identifying habits that are keeping your work from moving forward
Some photographers come in needing help with one exact problem. Others just know something is not clicking and want help sorting through it. Both are completely fine.
What Makes This Different
This is not generic photography coaching.
It is not built around tricks, gimmicks, or trying to overwhelm you with information. It is not about showing off gear, chasing locations, or throwing random tips at the wall and hoping something sticks.
Led by Light is built around a practical, light-first way of working.
That means we focus on what the landscape is actually doing, how light and conditions are shaping the opportunity, what decisions follow from that, and how those decisions carry through from the field to the final photograph. The goal is not just to talk about photography. The goal is to help you understand it more clearly and apply it with more confidence.
You do not need more noise. You need better order. Better questions. Better decisions.
That is what this is for.
